Carmen L. Proffitt, age 75, of Salem, passed away Monday, May 15 at her home.
Carmen was born July 6, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Salem. She was retired from the US Postal Service and was a former Postmaster. She was also a member of Friends of the Library, a past president of the Salem Band Boosters, member of the Art Guild, and Rotary.
She is survived by her children: James Patrick Proffitt of Fredericksburg and Sonya I. Broady (John) of Sellersburg, a brother: Joseph Nava (Katherina) of Queens, New York, two sisters: Elizabeth M. Tarr (Charles) of Salem, and Barbara Conyer (Dr. William) of Paducah, Kentucky, six grandchildren: Sarah Elizabeth Lynn, Kaysi D. McKillip, Lacey Brooke Kimberlin, Taylor Patrick Proffitt, Hunter William Kimberlin, Nicholas E. Broady, and ten great-grandchildren: Jayden Lynn, Jordan Lynn, Daisy H. McKillip, June Lynn, Charlee Proffitt, Rease Proffitt, C. Maxwell McKillip, Axle McKillip, Teagan McCracken, Maryn Proffitt, Eleanor I. Kimberlin, and soon to be: Leo Eiver McCracken.
Carmen was preceded in death by her mother: Margarita Ortega.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8PM at Weathers Funeral Home.
