Helen L (Cook) Dennis

Helen Louise (Cook) Dennis, age 88, passed away in her Livonia, Indiana home on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at 9:36PM surrounded by her family and special Hospice caregivers.

Helen was born August 2, 1935, in Paoli, Indiana. She was born at home to John Riley and Emma Retta (Walls) Cook. She was a 1953 graduate of Paoli High School and worked at BF Goodrich. Later in life she returned to school and graduated in 1976 from New Albany School of Nursing where she received her LPN License. She was employed and retired from Washington County Memorial Hospital.

Helen married Donald C. Dennis on February 20, 1953, in Bedford, Indiana. She was a wonderful caretaker for her husband Donald, who preceded her in death in 2011. She was a member of the Livonia Baptist Church, Phi Beta Si, and bookkeeper to her husband’s welding business, Dennis Mfg.

Helen and Donald had two children, Donna Kaye Dennis and Gary Don Dennis. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, 7 brothers: George, Arnold, Clifford, Elmer, Raymond, Donald, and Bud and three sisters: Mary, Opal, and Thelma. She is survived by her daughter: Donna of Livonia; daughter-in-law: Sharon Dennis of Livonia; and two beloved grandchildren: Aaron (Kelly) Dennis of Livonia and Jenisa (J.B.) Collier of Salem. Her great pride and joy was in her five great-grandchildren whom she loved deeply: Aryann Louise Dennis, Iziah Paul Dennis, Jamesdon Brian Collier, Jenson Dennis Collier, and Jabe Richard Collier. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, David Dennis and several nieces and nephews.

Helen’s wishes of staying at home were carried out due to the great support and care that was provided by her caregivers, daughter, grandchildren, and wonderful, St. Croix Hospice Staff. Helen was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 9  at 11AM at Livonia Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Livonia Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8PM at Weathers Funeral Home and Thursday from 10AM-time of service at Livonia Baptist Church.
