Mr. Lawrence "Lonnie" W. Blevins, age 84, of Salem passed away Friday, April 3 at Baptist Health Floyd. Mr. Blevins was born October 30, 1941, in Salem, the son of Walter B. Blevins and Margaret E. Wingler Blevins Woods. Lonnie was a retired evangelist and gospel song writer. He traveled to churches and revivals evangelizing and performing with his gospel band, Gospel Road Singers. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing and when he was younger, deer hunting. He was a member of Blue River Baptist Church. Lonnie is survived by his wife: Mabel "Louise" Miller Blevins. They were married September 18, 1965. He is also survived by his children: Chris Blevins (Lisa) of Scottsburg, Eddie Blevins (Kim) of Scottsburg, and Teddy Blevins (Kamala) of Salem, Melissa Young (David) of Salem, and Mindy Borden (Keith) of Scottsburg, brothers: James "Butch" Blevins (Sally) of Cedar Lake, Indiana and Larry Blevins of Salem, a sister: Janice Valandingham (Ken) of Kingman, Arizona, 18 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two brothers: Richard "Rick" Blevins and Victor Blevins, one sister: Vivian Gould, his parents, and his step-father: Thomas Woods. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 7 at 11AM at Blue River Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Blue River Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, April 6 from 4-8PM at Weathers Funeral Home and Tuesday, April 7 from 9-11AM at the church.
