Michael "Mike" Chastain, age 75, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully Friday, March 6 at his home.
Mike was born May 8, 1950, in New Albany, Indiana, the son of Herman and Ivalou Colglazier Chastain. He was a member of Westview Christian Church, Columbus Elks, Salem Moose Lodge, Seymour Eagles, Racers Emergency Support Group, Racers for Christ, Legendary Whitey Wednesday Club and the North West Ohio Tractor Pullers Association Blue Shirts, which presents the National Tractor Pulling Championships.
Mike's early life consisted of working on the family farm. He graduated from West Washington High School class of 1968, and went on to attend University of Evansville, where he played baseball. He returned home to continue his work on the farm and to start a family. He enjoyed working the farm with his father and supporting his sons in sports and 4-H. For 13 years he was a District Sales Rep for Garst Seeds. On weekends, he could be found playing softball with his friends or playing cards with family. He became involved with truck pulling with his oldest son, Jared. This interest turned into a new career as Motorsports Operations Director for Lucas Oil Motorsports. Mike never met a stranger and was very outgoing. His personality and the frequent travel with his position allowed him to form and maintain friendships with many people all over the United States. After retirement, Mike stayed involved with truck pulling with his youngest son Clay, until his health started to decline. Whether living in Washington County or Jackson County, Mike made sure to be involved with his family and friends and community. He could often be found attending various high school games or hosting a pool party in his backyard.
Mike is survived by his five children: Jared Michael Chastain (Jackie) of Brazil, Indiana, Brock Allen Chastain (Carrie) of Salem, Tyson James Chastain (Mandy) of Salem, Morgan Renotta Hubbard (Eric) of North Vernon, and Clay Jennings Chastain (Hannah) of Brownstown. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Kade Chastain (Taylor), Jeffrey Burch, Kolten Chastain (Ellie), Addie Chastain (Wyatt Hopper), Addi Pepmeier (Brody), Paylsea Chastain, and Daniel Hubbard, and two great-grandchildren: Kohen Chastain and Hayes Chastain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Clifford Chastain and Dr. Truman Chastain, and one sister: Phyllis Chastain.
