Mr. Eugene Robert Powell, age 92, of Salem, passed away October 10, 2021 at Salem Crossing with his daughters at his side. The family wishes to convey their gratitude to the staff at Salem Crossing for their excellent love and care.

Eugene was born December 8, 1928, in Louisville, Kentucky the son of Marshall and Barbara Schroll Powell. He worked for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad as an engineer.

He is survived by his children: Deborah Cooley (Charles) of Pekin, Linda Schamel (Mark) of Salem, Karen Morgan (Jeff) of Salem, Janet O’Keefe (Robert) of Salem, David Powell of Atlanta, and Michele Steggeman (James) of Edgewood, KY, 16 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife: Shirley Powell, a son: Terrance Powell (Karen), and a daughter-in-law: Robyn Powell.

Funeral mass will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 15 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 208 S. Shelby St. Salem, Indiana 47167.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10AM until 1:30P.M. at Weathers Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Washington County YMCA, 1709 N. Shelby St. Salem, IN 47167.
