Corydon

Herbert Harold (Herb) Banks, age 92, went to be with the Lord on February 2nd, 2021.  Herb was born on June 14, 1928 on a farm in Madison Township, Washington County, Indiana and loved farm life, hunting, and fishing.  His parents, Harold and Letha Banks preceded him in death, as did a sister, Phyllis Barkley.

Herb is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Carolyn Lee (Edwards), who he married on December 22, 1952.  He is also survived by four children, Steve (Dawn) Banks, Tanya Ballinger, Mark (Sandra) Banks, and Scott (Karen) Banks; eight grandchildren, Candice (Brian) Reynolds, Sarah (Brett) Lisher, Carrie (Travis) Wolfe, Samantha (Anson) Gleitz, Christopher (Jessica) Ballinger, Austin Ballinger, Katherine Banks, and Zachary Banks; and twelve great-grandchildren, Brady and Brice Reynolds, Christopher (Ruddy), Ethan, Ryleigh, Rebecca, Natalie, and Gabriel Lisher, Titus and Stella Wolfe, Conor Gleitz, and Logan Ballinger.  He is also survived by a sister, Martha (Marvin) Cornwell and several nieces and nephews.

After serving in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, Herb worked at Farm Bureau Insurance, the Soil and Water Conservation Service, and was the Director of the Lawrence County ASCS for almost twenty years.  He then worked as the Director of the Bedford Housing Authority for six years.

Herb was very active in community affairs and during his life time he was a 4-H leader for the Lucky Clovers, a life-time member of the NRA, a member of the Livonia Odd Fellows, and belonged to the Masonic Lodge #21 in Salem, and the Scottish Rite and Murat Shriners in Indianapolis.

Baptized at the age of thirteen, Herb was a lifelong Christian and served as a deacon at Westview Christian Church in Campbellsburg where he was a member.  Herb’s greatest joy was spending time wit his large family and will be sorely missed by them all.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 31 from 1-4PM at Westview Christian Church Family Life Center.  Military honors will be held at 1PM in the church parking lot.

Brian Reynolds, Brett Lisher, Travis Wolfe, Anson Gleitz, Brady Reynolds, Titus Wolfe, and Zachary Banks will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial donations may be made to Westview Christian Church, 2638 N. West Washington School Road, Campbellsburg, IN 47108.
