Lonnie "Tony" Sands

Mr. Lonnie “Tony” A. Sands, age 74, of Medora, passed away Tuesday, April 27 at his home.

Mr. Sands was born September 4, 1946 in New Albany, Indiana the son of Gerald Sands Sr. and Mildred Catherine James Sands.  He was a former offshore driller and bricklayer.  He also previously worked for Kimball’s and Schwartz Pharmaceutical in Seymour.  He was a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife:  Carolyn Stidam Sands.  They were married October 28, 2006.  He is also survived by his son:  William “Billy” Sands of Salem, a step-son:  Trapper Dean (Danielle) of Medora, a step-daughter:  Lora Darlage (Matt) of Seymour, two brothers:  James Sands of Salem, and Arty Sands of New Albany, a sister:  Becky Osborne of New Albany, and seven grandchildren:  Ashley Darlage, Kinzee Dean, Trapper Dean, Brock Dean, Kobe Stuckwisch, Eliza Sands, and Katlin Sands.  He was preceded in death by a step-daughter:  Amy Dean, a brother:  Gerald Sands Jr., two sisters:  Beverly Haney and Catherine Sands, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1PM at Weathers Funeral Home with military honors. Pastor Steve Younger (Tanya) will officiate. Cremation will follow and burial will be at US New Albany National Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana at a later date.  Visitation will be Friday from 3-7PM and Saturday from Noon-time of service.
