Pricilla Dorene Rutherford

Miss Pricilla “Dorene” Rutherford, age 86, of Salem, passed away at 12:17AM on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Meadowview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Miss Rutherford was born June 4, 1935, in Washington County the eighth child of James Harley and Mabel Weston Rutherford.  She was born at home on the family farm in Delaney’s Creek bottoms. Dorene was a lifelong resident of Washington County, having lived on the farm that her great-grandfather, William Weston, homesteaded in 1852, until the age of 80 when she moved to town. She was baptized at Crossroads Baptist Church and was a member of Blue River Friends Church. Dorene loved her family and friends, and was especially proud of her nieces and nephews, their kids, and grandkids.

Dorene is survived by one brother:  Howard Rutherford (Carmen) of Orleans, four nieces, eight nephews, thirty-two great-nieces and nephews, and eleven great-great-nieces and nephews, with one on the way, many cousins, and numerous staff at Meadowview who have become family over the past 26 months.

She is preceded in death by four brothers:  Volney, James, Murl, and Everett Rutherford, four sisters:  Flossie Louise Collins, Stella Bridgewater, Marjorie Rutherford, with whom she lived every day of her life until her passing nearly two years ago, her infant sister at birth, a great-nephew:  Noah Bridgewater, and her parents.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 9, at 2:00PM at Mt. Hebron Cemetery. Burial will follow.
