Wanda Jean Payne Jackson, age 84, passed away at her home on Monday, February 13, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Cancer.
Wanda was born on September 21st, 1938, in Washington County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Gladys and Ralph Payne. She was a homemaker and worked at Highlander Center Laundromat for over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Joseph Wayne Jackson (Lori).
She is survived by her husband of 67 years: Donald Jackson of Salem, IN, her daughter Teresa Jackson of Salem, IN. 2 grandsons: Tyler Marlman (Jennifer) of Owensboro, KY and Zane Jackson of Rolla, MO. One step-granddaughter Leslie Erwin Dover of Louisville, KY. 2 great-grandsons: Preston Marlman and Asher Marlman both of Owensboro, KY as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
At a young age Wanda was a bit of a tom boy and idolized her father and they enjoyed squirrel hunting together. Donald and Wanda were friends in grade school as well as high school, then married June 25th, 1955. In their early years of marriage, they lived a nomadic lifestyle and traveled to many states as Don followed his heavy equipment operating career. Wanda always prided herself on managing her household and ensuring Don was ready and able to work each day. They enjoyed traveling throughout the years and went on numerous family vacations. Later in life Wanda enjoyed sewing, cake decorating, and morning walks with her buddies. Wanda was a majorette and cheerleader in High School and her enjoyment of Salem High School sports extended late into her life as she loved following the Boys & Girls basketball teams. Wanda’s main enjoyment in life was spending time with and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-9PM and Thursday from 10AM-1PM at Weathers Funeral Home in Salem, Indiana. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1PM at the same location. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem.
